The Research Institute
of Transport and Construction Technologies

      Today National Transport University is one of the leading education and scientific centers in independent Ukraine. Founded by the Decree of the Council of the People's Commissars of the USSR No 11.06-r of November, 7, 1944 Kyiv Automobile and Highway Institute (KAHI) always paid attention to the development of scientific activity of the academic staff.

      The work and research of a number of prominent and famous scholars and managers of higher education establishments is associated with the University’s name. These involve M.O.Lavrentyev, Doctor of Science in Technology, Physics & Mathematics, Academician and Vice-President of the National Academy of the USSR, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academician of several other academies, State Prize Laureate; he was recognized as the founder and Head of the Siberian Branch of the National Academy of the USSR; A.O.Vasylenko, a well known figure in the field of the machine-building industry, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Professor D.A.Rudenko, a prominent scientist and a builder ( State Prize Laureate), Professor V.A.Roiter, a physicist and a chemist (Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Scientist of Ukraine); O.O.Sigov,a scientist and a metallurgist ( State Prize Laureate ); M.O.Kilchevsky, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; and other talented scientists such as I.I.Gihman, O.M.Penkov, S.I.Tetelbaum, I.A.Kyryenko, all of them being Corresponding Members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

      A considerable role in the development of science and creative activity of the research staff of the university belongs to the research sector (later a research department) organized in 1964, which in different years was successfully headed by V.D.Shevchenko, P.Y.Shumlyakivskiy, L.P.Barilovich.

      In 2000 on the basis of the scientific department the Research Institute of Transport and Construction Technologies was formed.
