History
The department of Manufacturing Systems and Service in transport was founded in 1949 and had a name “Exploitation of vehicles and road-building machinery”. Leonid Reva was invited to the post of the first head of the department. The first tutors were: Yakov Nesvitskyi, Anatoliy Morgun, Grygoriy Makarchuk, Vsevolod Tsymbalov and others. From the first days the department established its logistical base, the following labs were established : “Maintenance vehicles” and “Fuel and lubricants”. The preparation of scientific personnel began. The first graduates were: Vadym Kanarchuk, Ivan Kurnikov, Oleksandr Ludchenko.
In 1955, as a head of the department was invited Ya. Nesvitskyi. A graduate of the Kharkov Institute of Agricultural Mechanization Nesvitskyi has progressed from mechanic of the motor vehicles to the doctor of science in technology, professor. His book “Technical exploitation of vehicles” is the first textbook in the State for this discipline, survived several publications. In 1976 Ya. Nesvitsky was awarded the title of the USSR State Prize winner for the second edition of his textbook.
From 1972 till 1983 the Head of the department of Technical Exploitation of Automobiles was doctor of science in technology, professor Igor Luik. Professor I. Luik first formulated the theory of recovery system of elements that have characteristic properties of vehicle park. This is a generalization of renewal theory of single elements, proposed by the famous American scientist V. Smith, on higher levels. Professor I.Luik created and headed the Ukrainian school, which operates in the application of modern economic and mathematical methods, models and computers while addressing maintenance of machines and devices.
From 1983 till 1985 the Head of the department was doctor of science in technology, professor Mykola Koszarny.
From 1985 till 2005 the Head of the department was doctor of science in technology, professor Ivan Kurnikov. In this department he passed his way from the graduate (1966-69 years), assistant of the department (1969-1971), associate professor (1971-1986 years) and professor in 1987 year. In 1969, I. Kurnikov defended his thesis under the guidance of the founder of the department L. Reva, in 1983 – his doctoral thesis. Since 1985 directions of training and research activity receives further development.
Since 2005 the department is led by Professor Serhiy Andrusenko.
By the state on September, 1, 2009 the department assigned the following disciplines:
1. Introduction to the technological processes on the road transport.
2. Using the fuel and lubricants and economy them.
3. Production systems on transport.
4. Introduction to the profession.

Research
Research activity on "Formation and development of industrial infrastructure, road transport, aimed at ensuring the rational exploitation and environmental security”.
Results of the research activity:
• a methodology for transforming department of specialized facilities into the regional structure is developed;
• the problems of the public transport are consider;
• a methodology of stocks forecasting based on they past consumption is developed;
• a theoretical basis of determining dimensions of tramcars is developed;
• the organization and status of life safety on road transport are analyzed;
• needs in MOT and repairing, taking into account the age structure of the fleet of cars are analyzed;
• analysis of the structural elements of supply networks is done;
• a comprehensive approach to enhance durability of tires is recommended;
• an expediency of mechanized high-rise car parking introduction in Kiev is analyzed.
According to the results of research, over the past four years thesis for the degree of candidate of science in technology have defended: Volodymyr Biletskyi, Peter Hodovanyuk, Roman Kudin, Andriy Loboda, Serhiy Pustovoitenko.
