The Department was founded on September,1 1968. The Department is responsible for teaching 17subjects, the main of which are:

The key research interest

The key research interest of the Department is to develop bucketless rotary parts with two-step unloading.

The Department has well-equipped laboratories, including training laboratories of machine parts; lifting and transporting machinery; earth moving machines; building materials manufacturing machinery; road machines maintenance and testing and a computer classroom. Besides, there is a training ground with the premises over 1000 m2 floor area. Laboratory studies, practical teaching and training are organized using real road construction vehicles. The training ground has a research laboratory for soil-digging machinery testing.

Students undertake industrial training placement and pre-diploma training at road-construction and maintenance enterprises, road machinery manufacturing and repair plants as well as at research institutes.

Since its foundation the main area of the Department research has been longevity and efficiency of road machines. Other research interests include wear resistance enhancement of soil-digging machines parts with help of polymers; facilitation of low-temperature starting of internal combustion engines; development of road marking equipment; efficient method of snow removal by motorised transport in Kyiv.

For five years the Department conducted the work on maintenance improvement of rapid road construction machinery. The results of this work were applied by the Ministry of Transport Construction for Simferopol airport runway construction.

The department did research in material, fuel and energy conservation and regeneration. In particular, non-standard equipment for an asphalt-concrete plant was developed. It allows to regenerate old asphalt concrete without changing plant process technology.

Under Prof. V.D. Musiyka's guidance the department has been actively performing a lot of fundamental research in the following areas: design of soil-digging machinery for quick major repair of trunk pipelines (MPRH-1, MIT, MNR, MP) without lifting the main pipeline and without stopping oil flow; working parts parameters of padding and tamping machines for pipelines; efficiency enhancement of pipeline excavating machines chain working parts and drive load decrease; efficient types and basic parameters of trencher working parts unification and excavating machines automatic control; road and excavating machines operation and working environment; table simulator experiments of working parts and processes which interact with the working environment of ground channel. The research resulted into development of machines for quick major repair of trunk pipelines as well as into candidate of science degree dissertation defense (Leychenko Yu.B., Kuzminets M.P.)

The research led to 22 patents received in Ukraine, Russia, Hungary, the United States and publication of over 60 scientific articles.

One of the patented inventions was an absolute winner of the all-Ukrainian contest for the best invention of 2005.

In June 2000 the Department employees in the delegation of Ukraine presented research results at the 16th World Petroleum Congress in Calgary (Canada). Canadian independent experts recognized their research work as being 15-20 years ahead of the current research level.

In 2000 and 2001 the Department took part in the following exhibitions organized in Kyiv: "Oil and Gas", "Energy. Power Engineering. Energy Efficiency", as well as International Economic Cooperation Forum "Ukraine and the World. Partnership for Harmony and Development"

The Department scientists and researchers are active participants in international and industry conferences and seminars. Their development projects were demonstrated at the international exhibition "Hanover-Messe" in Hanover (Germany) in April 2001, Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition in Shanghai (China) in September 2001, as well as at International Energy Forum in Kyiv in September 2006.

A large number of Department projects were implemented into machine design, which passed public acceptance testing and are serially manufactured at DP "Malyshev Plant" (Kharkiv). They are used for major repair of trunk pipelines by such companies as "Pridneprovsky oil-trunk pipelines, VAT"Ukrtransnafta (Ukraine) and OAO "Uraltransgaz", OAO "Gazprom" (Russia).

Implementation of research results allows to quickly carry out significant amount of major repairs of trunk pipelines as well as to facilitate Ukraine’s access to the international markets with modern high-tech products and technology.

Zaychenko A.L. defended the Candidate of Science degree dissertation on facilitation of low-temperature starting of internal combustion engines.

Golovach I.P., Zabrodkina V.O. used the results of the Department research in wear resistance enhancement of soil-digging machines parts with polymers in their dissertation.

Krasnoslobodtsev S.O. prepared and defended the Candidate of Science degree dissertation on prevention of flat rocks spontaneous combustion.

In 1972 the Department began to conduct work on tracked and rail-sliding equipment of heavy-duty excavating machines. It led to creation of Prof. Mayevsky’s scientific school and as well as Candidate of Science dissertations (Vysokovych E.V., Goncharenko G.I.)

In 1982 a post-graduated student from Syria Alhadzh Faik Sabri defended his PhD dissertation under Prof. Mayevsky’s supervision.

Makarchuk O.I. did research in asphalt reuse

The main outcomes of the scientific and teaching work are reflected in publications, prepared at the Department:
