Key research interests of the department

      - Testing, quality control, certification of materials, products and structures;
     - Testing of roads, bridges and airfields pavement;
     - Development of methods for calculating the strength and durability of road pavement;
     - Development of normative technical documents for road construction;
     - Development and implementation of effective road-building materials (RBM), saving resources provision, quality improvement of materials and activities;
     - Development and improvement of methods for determining the thermo-mechanical and thermo-rheological properties of road building materials;
     - Efficient methods of specially controlled construction material properties development;
     - Scientific support for the introduction of new technologies and materials in the practice of the design, construction and maintenance of transportation facilities.

     One of the scientific results of the department is the development of asphalt concrete pavement of increased durability.

     The department has developed a design method for asphalt concrete pavement of increased durability which takes into account transport and temperature factors.

     The research has led to the development and introduction into industry of the following materials:
     - Polymer macadam;
     - polymer grouted macadam;
     - molten macadam;
     - drainage macadam.

     The research results are implemented in the design and reconstruction of highways: Kyiv-Chop, Kyiv-Odessa, Kyiv-Kharkiv, Kyiv-Chernihiv, city streets and buildings in Kyiv, Odessa, Rivne, Vinnitsa and others.
