     History of the Department

      The department was founded in 1944. The department has been renamed several times:

      In 1944 – the Department of Bridges , 1950-1952 – “Constructing Mechanics and Bridges”. In 1953 the independent Department of Building Structures and Bridges was founded. In 1986 the department was reorganized. The Department of Artificial Structures and Hydraulics was founded on the basis of the Department of Building Structures and Bridges. In 1993 the department was renamed as “Bridges and Tunnels”.

      The department is proud that the first rector of the institute, the AS of Ukraine corresponding member, Professor Dadenkov Yu.M taught Hydraulics, Hydrology, Hydrometry”.

      The academic staff of the department teaches students in the specialties 7.092106 and 8.092106 “Bridges and Transport Tunnels” and 7.092105 “Roads and Aerodromes” at the Road Building Faculty. The students of the 092106 specialty can earn Bachelor, Specialist and Master Degrees. The department has graduated more than 1500 students of the “Bridges and Tunnels” specialty over its lifetime.

      The department owns 2 training laboratories: one of the building constructions and the other of the bridges and hydraulics.

      Seven doctor’s theses and more than 100 candidate theses have been prepared and defended, 25 textbooks and manuals and more than 130 methodological works have been published.

      The department closely cooperates with similar departments of the transport universities of the CIS and abroad.

      The department keeps in touch and exchanges scientific programs with the universities of transport profile of Germany, the USA, Serbia, Croatia, CNR, Poland, Finland, Switzerland. The citizens of Vietnam, Mongolia, Germany, Sudan, CNR were PhD students and served their internship at the department.

      The academic staff of the department (prof. Lyantukh-Lyashchenko Yu.D., Dr.Stolyarov A.M.) transferred experience of teaching and research work during their teaching at the universities of Guinea, Tunisia, and Laos. Professor Lyantukh-Lyashchenko A.I. was the expert of IPO (UN).

      The All-Ukrainian Intersectorial Scientific-Practical Seminar “The modern problems of designing, building and maintenance of the passage-ways” is held every two years. The scientists from Russia, Byelorussia, Germany, Poland, England, the USA, Canada, Algeria, and Sudan participate there.

      The scientific seminar in open beds and constructions hydraulics has regularly worked since January 1965. 151 seminar meetings have been held over this period.

      The department publishes the “Hydraulics and Hydrotechnology” interdepartmental scientific and technical digest. 61 digests were published from 1965 to 2009.
