      The Department was founded in Kyiv Automobile and Highway Institute (now NTU). The Department was exposed to some changes and reorganized. It merged with the Department of Hydraulics (1947 - 1960) and the Department of Engineering Geodesy (1993). As a result, the teaching is conducted in the following directions: highway design and engineering geodesy.

     15. Economic Aspects of Design in Transport Construction.
     16. Fundamentals of Highway Reconstruction.
     17. Aero Geodesy.
     18. Highway Design (special course).
     19. Road Connections Design.
     20. Cartographic Methods of Ecology.

     The academic process is computerized. It is conducted with the help of computer programs, manuals and methodological guidelines prepared by the academic staff of the Department.      Key Research Interests:
     Highway network design;
     The improvement of road constructional elements;
     The influence of exhaust gases upon environment.

     The great amount of research work is conducted with the help of budget funds. It is financed by the State Service of roads of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The department has well-equipped laboratories of highways and airfields.

     The best graduates have been doing postgraduate programs since 1960 and 45 postgraduate students defended their theses. Some of them (Bilyatynskiy O.A., Zavorytskiy V.Yo., Skorchenko V.F., Ugnenko Ye.B.) became Doctors of Science.

     The academic staff of the Department cooperates with foreign institutions of the same type. These are: Moscow National Automobile and Highway University, Vilnyus Engineering and Building University, Ural State Economic University and others.
