The history of National Transport University began on 7 November, 1944. Kyiv Motor Car and Road
Construction Institute was founded in the capital of Ukraine since motor transport and a developed
network of motorways played an important role in national economy, especially in the post-war period.
At first there were only two faculties: Road construction and Motor-mechanical which trained
specialists with a degree in the following specialisms: motorways, bridges, motor-cars and motor
facilities, road-building machines and mechanizms. In August 1944, after the state accreditation
the Institute became a University and got the highest fourth level of accreditation and the name
of Ukrainian Transport University and on 11 September, 2000 under the Ukrainian President's
